Who must have a risk assessment?
The Hungarian OSH Act requires every business to have a risk assessment if even one employee — or a helping family member — takes part in its activities. Preparing one qualifies as a licensed occupational safety and health activity, so only professionals with the relevant qualification may carry it out.
Act XCIII of 1993 (Hungarian OSH Act)
What does it cover?
The assessment covers the work equipment in use, hazardous substances and mixtures, the physical and mental loads affecting employees, and the layout of workplaces — which is why it belongs in the hands of experienced, properly qualified specialists.
How often must it be renewed?
A completed risk assessment must be redone at least every 5 years (the review cycle was amended in 2024). An extraordinary assessment is required when working conditions change (new machinery, materials or technology), or after an elevated exposure event or a serious workplace accident.
Good to knowAn up-to-date risk assessment is the first thing authority inspectors ask for — nearly every inspection starts with it.
